Having a designated marksman on a team of dedicated hitters is a game changer when boots hit the ground. The ability to shoot long range and cover a fire team moving on an objective can make the difference between a group of leejes crushing it or getting crushed.
During the invasion of Kima, Zombie Squad received orders to breach the fire base’s entry control point to provide route access for armored and line leej access. The control point had a clear view of open ground for over half a kilometer, so the boys needed to cross the open ground, access the EMP’d gate and keep the enemy fighters from dialing them in with repulsing fire.
The team shooter, Gekko, used his N-65 Variable Output Weapon’s system to lock bolts on dolts to keep the Zombie Squad from getting pasted by outgoing enemy fire. As a shooter popped up, the leej, firing from an elevated position, dusted the first enemy, running a recoilless rifle, then killed the loader when he tried to take over. The rapidly fired killing of the crew running their biggest gun scattered the enemy, leaving Zombie squad clear to make a run for the entry.
While most leejes are assigned the N-18 for long range engagements, the N-65 is a throwback to the Psydon Conflict where shooters needed a more compact platform due the environment. Leejes are fully aware that the N-18 outperforms the N-65 on every level, but still keep the older model in inventory because of its compact frame compared to the newer system, and the ability to adjust its output aperture to provide for different blaster bolt effects.
