Blinding an enemy is the best way to make sure he can’t hit you back. Or so the saying goes. The Leejes on the attack during the Battle of Ankalor knew this better than most.
During difficult landings in open terrain, the members of a legion task force can call on the navy to deploy SMAFF rounds to confuse the enemy. Composed of refractive smoke littered with ion charged metallic particulate, SMAFF rounds can be launched from many deployment options to drop a heavy blinder blanket over the target area.
Within the SMAFF cloud, visibility is reduced to less than a few feet, with the particulate acting to keep the smoke hovering over the target. The same matter in the fog is used to fritz out electronics, turning those with non-legion buckets and comms into def mutes that can’t communicate across the battlefield.
During the siege on Ankalor Charlie Company First Platoon, “The Punishers,” were reduced to hand signal and visual attenuated sights (iron sights) to address incoming donks looking to do them in. While the enemy detection was punched into little more than guesswork to fight the legionnaires coming through the smoke, the advanced communication’s array powering the L-Comm allowed for the Punishers to have close quarter commo and peer-to-peer messaging, as well as their buckets being protected from the smoke frizzing out their vision modes.
But the smoke still worked against the leejes to a degree. While they still had some functionality to their buckets, the dense nature of the SMAFF was such that donk screamers running into the fog weren’t noticed until the last minute. Blaster bolts flew everywhere, while the screamers came in and accidentally tackled legion leadership.
In every direction through the smoke, there was fighting and PFC Huzu knew he had to get off the X. See how the Legionnaire negotiates the SMAFF and deals with the Donk threat in Turning Point.
Donks got donked.
